Who Can Join?
Any individual and/or Unit is elegible to apply for membership in the NWTA regardless of race, creed, national
origin or sex.
Units and/or individuals seeking membership shall comply with the NWTA Constitution and By-Laws.
Steps to Individual Membership:
- Download and submit the Individual Membership Application (16k)
- Submit your annual dues
- Choose one of the participation options
NWTA Dues:
NWTA Membership is contingent upon payment of dues and other assessments required by the Board of
Directors. Units or Individuals may not participate in NWTA sanctioned events unless their dues are paid current.
- $25.00 - Family Membership will be restricted to two (2) voting members living at the same address and
their dependent(s), who must be under 18 and living at the same address, unless the dependent is a
student living away from home, a member of the military on duty or a minor for whom the voting
member(s) have assumed responsibility during events by filing letters to that effect with the
NWTA Adjutant from both the voting member and the parent/guardian with whom the minor
resides.
- $20.00 - Single Membership will be restricted to one (1) voting member and his or her dependent(s), who
must be under 18 and living at the same address, unless the dependent is a student living away
from home, a member of the military on duty or a minor for whom the voting member has
assumed responsibility during events by filing letters to that effect with the NWTA Adjutant from
both the voting member and the parent/guardian with whom the minor resides.
Individual Membership Options:
Individuals who have completed their membership application and paid their NWTA dues have the following options:
- The Loyal Irish Volunteers (LIV) is the recruiting unit of the NWTA. Individuals may
become members of this unit and continue their membership in this unit for up to two (2) years.
During that time period, individuals may attend events with various other units in order to
determine which unit they will want to join on a permanent basis.
- Civilian-At-Large Membership. Any individual may become a member of the Civilian Camp and
continue their membership indefinitely. Civilian camp members portray civilian individuals
living in the area of the theatre of the American Revolution and during the time period 1775-1783.
- Established NWTA Unit Membership: If you have been recuited by an established NWTA Unit you are free to participate as part of that Unit at this time. If you have chosen to become a member of the LIV you should contact the Commanders of units that you are interested joining and spend an event weekend with them to see if you both fit well. If a membership agreement is made between you and one of your guest units, then the unit Commander would have your membership transferred to his or her unit. The NWTA Field Guide will give you a very good overview of the historical significance of each unit and provide you with contact information.
New Unit Membership:
A Group of individuals wishing to participate as a new NWTA Unit are encourage to apply for New Unit Membership. The type and designation of new units may be limited by the Board of Directors. An applying
organization of the same type and name as a member unit must have written permission of the existing
unit.

What is the Unit Membership Criteria?
Organizations wishing to become Full Member Units
shall conform to the following regulations for two (2) stages of membership:
Full Unit Membership:
- The applicant organization shall select a unit that participated in the American Revolution and
shall pattern itself on that unit, adopt its name and submit research to the Inspector General.
Upon payment of any required fees and approval of submitted research by the Inspector General,
the Board will consider making the organization a Probationary Member Unit. Its commander or
leader is an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.
- Following participation in two or more events with a minimum of five members and with a positive
inspection report from the Inspector General, the Board of Directors may advance the organization
to a Full Member Unit, with all the rights and privileges thereof.
Units With Fewer Than Five Members:
- Organizations with fewer than five (5) members, but which meet all other requirements for Full
Unit Membership, may apply to the Board of Directors for Special Probationary Status. The Board
will set a time limit at the end of which the unit’s status will be reviewed. Its commander or leader
is an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.
